Pincers

I had read about the pincer grasp somewhere in some article some time ago - I didn't really think anything about it. Well Zach is learning to use this technique and it is really amazing to watch him learn it! It is so obvious to me what he is doing - just makes you think about how much they have to learn! By the way, in addition to cheerios, he likes to pincer grasp eyes and noses - he really finds that funny! (I guess that is baby humor)

Just when you think you know em'

Chris and I had been doing pretty well with Zach and knowing his cries. Now that he is babbling and learning syllables he is beginning to use his own version of English. I understand "Ma" and "Da" but he really has us stumped on the newest "Ah Na Na" He can't possibly want bananas all of the time. He has been using this one for about a week now - We had come to the conclusion over the weekend that it meant he was hungry. Not so, he proved us wrong this week. I think it just means something is wrong (hungry, tired, diaper, bored, etc.) I can't wait until he learns a few more syllable combinations.

Baby-Proof??

Seriously, is there any such thing?? He finds everything - I wish I had that eyesight!!

PS - that pesky ear infection finally cleared up!!

Whining Answer

I found an article relating to the Whiner Post - it doesn't really help that much, but I definitely think its a phase!

Who Needs a Maid?

I saw this great gadget on TV - but then I thought who needs that when you have a crawling baby who already sweeps up everything off the floor?

New Word

This is our new word in the house - I think Chris and I will be using it often!

Mommy Poll

What is your least favorite item to clean?

-so far, mine is the highchair!

Congratulations Alicia

Zach and his Aunt Alicia (mom's sister). She graduated from Fort Zumwalt South HS this weekend.

Whiner

I just have to ask "What is up with the whining??"

Zach has learned to throw tantrums and just whine and whine. Is this a new phase?? We don't give in to the fits, why does he keep trying? I hope this phase gets over with soon!

Oh and by the way, he would never behave this way in front of other people! It's special just for mom and dad.

Crawling

Zach has finally decided that crawling works for him. He has been scooting/army crawling for awhile now. He would get up on his hands and knees and rock and rock, than flop back down to scoot. Once he learned to crawl - he didn't do it. He would crawl two ?steps? and then flop back down to scoot. Well today - he is preferring actual crawling. I think we will say today is his crawling milestone.

BlockHead

On our visit to Dubuque for Easter weekend - Grandma Urban had bought Zach some blocks. It is a set of 10 nesting blocks. I wasn't really sure if he would play with them or not, but he loved them! He stacked them and dropped them and banged them, etc. I was determined to find him some of those blocks for at home (now if you know me, this means a bargain - so my search took a little while). Well I finally found a similar set - he doesn't play with them. Go figure - at least they only cost me a $1.

Raspberries

Zach was throwing a screaming fit last night and I tried to get the camera to record it. Once I pressed record - he quit crying and started blowing raspberries at me. That is what he does when he is mad.

The Poop Story

The first poopy diaper I changed on Sunday was a funny color - I thought "Wow that looks really red, what in the world did I feed him?". I didn't really worry at that point.
The next dirty diaper was the same color - now I know he hasn't eaten anything red. I tell Chris and he kinda blew me off. I am not worrying at this point either.
The next dirty diaper was Chris' turn. I heard from Zach's room "Something is wrong - come in here quick!!" When I came to look - once again, it was red poop. Now Chris is starting to worry - once he is concerned I definitely become concerned.
First thing Monday morning - I call the doctor and explain what is happening. She laughed and said "Oh honey, that is not blood. The antibiotic for the ear infection will turn their poop red. He is okay."
Well I am happy that he is okay - but why didn't anyone tell me that would happen? (I know the Dr. doesn't even think about it). I called the daycare and let then know about his diapers and not to be alarmed when they change him - the assistant director said "Well isn't he on antibiotics - that happens."
I guess these are the things we learn with kids - poop can be many colors!

1st Tooth

I am happy to report that Zach is cutting his first tooth! Chris and I have expected a tooth to pop through since he was 4mths old - We never guessed right. Well this time there is no mistaking it - Zach will no longer be toothless!

Oh yeah, Zach is also feeling just fine today - back to school, no fever, etc. Let's just cross our fingers that the new round of antibiotics will clear this pesky ear infection.

Blogtagious

So my friend Heather just posted on her blog that her little Lucas Scott is sick with a throat infection. Can that be contagious through blogging??? I mean seriously Lucas is in Guatemala. I guess you know where this is going.

Yep, another call from daycare - Zach is running 102 fever again. I decided to take him to the doctor right away since it is Friday. Good thing, he has some throat infection - including blisters on his little throat - Poor baby! He also has not kicked the ear infection. He sure is a trooper - I hope he will be feeling better soon!

Hmmm.....

I was talking to my mom yesterday about Zach. I was explaining how independent he is. He doesn't care to be held and he likes to do what he wants when he wants. He is not a cuddler and he just goes and goes until he drops. He is totally afraid of missing something (ie. no naps at school - too much going on). My mom offered me a book she had saved from when I was little - "The Strong-Willed Child". I wonder what that means....

What's With Mom's Shoe?

This is why Zach is a bigmouth!

Happy Baby

Zach just LOVES school!!! I went up to play with him at lunch today and he is just so happy. My son has become the big mouth in the infant room - he can really squeal!! He is also very mobile - he goes wherever he wants and his teachers say he loves to chase the bigger babies (there are only 3 older than him now) and do what they do. That must be how he is learning so much. It is obvious when I leave him that he is okay and gonna have fun! Its a good feeling to drop him off somewhere he really enjoys. So far, daycare has been a good experience.

Learning to Walk

This is Zach learning to take steps instead of just bounce up and down. He just loves Lucy so I walked him across the kitchen to get her. (Please ignore the hairballs on our kitchen floor!)

Blanket Bandit

Mother's Day - we decided to check out the Wentzville flea market. We were about half-way around the place when I realized that Zach's blanket was missing. I completely froze and started looking around frantically. I told Chris what happened and he immediately started the search with no luck :(
Of all the blankets to lose! When I found out that I was pregnant I wanted to make a blanket for our new baby. I selected the fabric and hand-quilted the entire thing. The project took a couple of months (I am not the greatest quilter- these things take time) to complete and I could not have been more proud!!
We think that someone had to have snatched it and we nicknamed them the Blanket Bandit. It wasn't a small blanket - I would have run over it with the stroller. Anyway - I will just have faith in Kharma - what goes around comes around! What a start to my first mother's day - From now on, I will safety pin everything to Zach's stroller!

In Honor of Gpa Paul and Ham Jams

Zach's First Taste of Ham (doesn't look quite like the ham we eat!)

Wednesday, May 10, 2006

Hooray!

I went up to the daycare for my lunch break to check on Zach and he is back in full force. He wasn't even interested in my visit - he has too many toys and friends to play with at school. At least he smiles and recognizes my presence for a brief moment!

An adorable girl in Zach's class has formed an attachment to me - once Zach realized that Ella had my attention he wanted it back! He reached over and grabbed a handful of her face - babies can really be mean to each other :)

Sick Again!

Monday morning - back to work/school. Everything is just fine.
10:30am I receive a call from the daycare - Zach has a 102 fever. Okay, no big deal - "I tell her to just give him some Tylenol" - She says "Oh no, he has a fever, you will have to pick him up"

I take Zach to work with me until Chris gets off around 2pm. He sure doesn't act sick - he found the phone and computer wires under my desk (several times), he found probably the only staple on the floor, he pulled the trash can over, and he crawled his way out of the office. By the end of the night we can actually tell that he doesn't feel well. Yep - he was up all night crying - better call the doctor.

Tuesday - back to the doctor (third time in 3 weeks) - You guessed it, the ear infection is back. He received a nasty shot of antibiotics (at least we don't have to remember to give it to him twice a day) and is doing remarkably better already.

Therefore, Zach is starting the day out at school today (Wednesday). Let's see if I get a call today??

At least he is having fun.

Zach learned how to tip the toy basket over the weekend - as you can see he pulled out all of the toys and then guess where he is??

INTO THE NEXT TOY BASKET.....

Blast From the Past

I found this video the other day - I can't believe how much he has changed!!

Johnny Jump Up

Sleep - Sleep - Sleep

I think daycare just wipes Zach out! He takes a nap on the way home from school everyday.

Last night he fell asleep on the way home - woke up at 7pm for a diaper change and bottle - then was back to sleep for the rest of the night.

On Monday night - he woke up from a catnap for his bedtime bottle. He barely finished it before falling (literally) back to sleep. Yes - he is sleeping in this picture!

After a little while, he made his head position a little more comfortable.
